“Never Nervous” Jumps the Gun

This is Fergis, our friendly, calm, neighborhood moose. Neither barking dogs nor annoying children disturbs his equanimity.  Hence the affectionate nickname—“Never Nervous Fergis.”

His normal working day consists of munching on aspen bark and the lush grass covering septic drain fields, checking on his peeps for leftover pancakes and wandering down to the fishing ponds for a cool drink once or twice a day.

Last week, Never Nervous showed up at our house in a perfect toot. What was eating the little guy? He’d heard rumors we were hosting an author book fair with many way-cool authors in attendance, panel discussions, book signings and heavy-duty schmoozing. Never Nervous has long been interested in all things book and perhaps been overly confident in his schmoozing skills. The wild, inaccurate rumor sent him to our back door, where he faunched and stomped until someone gave him a warm pancake and informed him the Mountain of Authors Showcase was not scheduled until next month from 12-5, not at our house, but at Library 21c, 1175 Chapel Hills Drive in Colorado Springs.

Never Nervous, one pancake to the good, took the news with a stiff upper lip and left in a much calmer state.

The dress code (Fergis excepted) is clothing.
